Has anyone ever made fun of you because your face gets red easily? This still happens to me, even though I’m a grown woman! It seemed more appropriate to be teased when I was a kid–that’s what kids do–but now it just seems ridiculous.
If I laugh really hard, or get a tiny bit embarrassed, or get scared or shocked or cry, my face flushes. Sometimes it’s like fire engine red (so I’ve been told) and there’s just no way of hiding it. I try to cover my face with my hair, but that just makes it worse. It makes me feel vulnerable to blush, but I can’t control it. So, rather than fighting it, I embrace it. If someone comments on my red face, I say thank you. And people tell me blushing is sexy.
It’s cool that our skin is transparent enough to reveal what we’re feeling. This just makes us human.
I decided to make my blush my makeup (instead of foundation) in this photograph above called So Scarlet, from the series Dressing
